Rep. Dale Strong Highlights Workforce Training at Drake State

April 12, 2026
U.S. Representative Dale Strong visited the Leidos Advanced Training Center at Drake State Community and Technical College, underscoring the growing link between local education and defense-sector employment. Leidos is a key contractor in the AeroVironment GENESIS program. The event marked Drake State’s 65th anniversary and emphasized workforce pipelines for high-tech manufacturing and drone systems. This aligns directly with the AeroVironment contract awarded last year. From what we're hearing locally, AeroVironment is already coordinating with Drake State on technician certification programs.

AeroVironment wins $97M Army contract for GENESIS program

March 22, 2026
AeroVironment has landed a $97.4 million, three-year contract from the U.S. Army to design and integrate prototype test environments under the GENESIS program. The work will be carried out at the company’s Huntsville office on Corporate Drive and includes building advanced testing infrastructure like flight motion tables and cryogenic space chambers. This isn’t bricks-and-mortar construction, but it’s infrastructure in the modern sense. Huntsville’s defense tech ecosystem is expanding beyond traditional contractors. AeroVironment, known for drones and autonomous systems, is now deep in Army modernization. The project could mean new lab space or facility upgrades—we haven’t confirmed that yet—but the investment is real.
